Kawagama Fireworks on the
August Long Weekend!
The fourth annual Kawagama fireworks
show takes place again this year on the August long weekend. Set
to go off the MTH barge shortly after 9pm, this show is a "must
attend" event on
Kawagama Lake! The fireworks are completely funded through
donations, so please give generously at either marina, or to the
boats that are out collecting the night of the fireworks.
Through the generous support of
Kawagama Cottagers, we keep increasing the budget for this
event, and have added another 15% to the pot for this year's
show! Keep your eyes peeled for a few extra high shells
showing up this year!
Water Trampoline Rentals
Booking Up!
The
20' Aviva Water Trampoline is proving popular again this summer.
There is some limited availability still in late July, and some
in August as well. If you are looking for something fun and
exciting at the cottage, call for more details on renting this
trampoline. It is definitely a hit at birthday parties!
Call 766-2214 or email
info@oldmillmarina.ca
to book your rental!
Slush Puppies Now Served At
Old Mill Marina!
Old Mill Marina has a refreshing new
option this summer - a brand new
Slush-Puppie machine is here! We are now serving Blue
Raspberry and Cherry flavours of these soft frozen drinks! Be sure to stop by the store on the next hot day and enjoy a cold,
refreshing Slush-Puppie drink!
Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream is
Back!
After a delay for ice cream freezer
repairs, we are pleased to see that the freezer is back up and
running and will be stocked with a variety of Kawartha Dairy
flavours for the first weekend in June! New this year, we
are having our Kawagama News email newsletter readers vote on
which flavour should be added in to the mix. Be sure to respond
to the next email newsletter and let us know which flavour you
would like for the 8th spot in the freezer! If you haven't
already joined our newsletter list, you can subscribe by
entering your email address in the Sign up for our Email
Newsletter form near the top of this page on the left or by
following our

SeaDoo Port Installed on Fuel
Docks!
As part of our commitment to the
Clean Marine Program, Old Mill Marina is pleased to announce the
installation of a RhinoPort on our fuel docks. This floating
personal watercraft port is intended to allow PWCs to safely and
securely dock for refueling, minimizing the risks of any
fuel being spilled into the lake during refueling.
The RhinoPort is installed on the west side of the fuel docks,
very close to shore (near the new dock with the kayaks and tubes
on display).
Yes, we do sell these PWC docks. If
you are interested, please ask Rob for more details.
Aviva Water Toys Are Here!
The Aviva line of water toys is back
for another summer! From tubes to trampolines, banana boats to
floating rock walls, and slides to swimming rafts, Old Mill
Marina has the products that will help create hours of fun and
entertainment at the cottage! The new dock built on the west
side of the gas docks has our expanded display of Paluski Kayaks
and Canoes as well as the Aviva line up of inflatable products.
Be sure to visit the beach in front of the Walisser house at the
marina to see (and perhaps test out!) the new slide, swimming
raft, and the SplashZone trampoline. Emily, Andrew and Laurie
would be happy to have visitors at their water park!

Old Mill Marina Internet
Wireless Access Point Now Live!
Old Mill Marina now has a free
wireless internet access point. Broadcast from the gas shack,
the access point covers the main floating docks, plus most of
the covered slips. Your smartphone or laptop simply needs to
connect to the wireless network named Old Mill Hot-Spot and you will quickly be up and running on the internet.
With a number of strategically placed Muskoka Chairs, you can
find a comfortable spot to enjoy a Timothy's Coffee and catch up
on email!
We have high speed satellite service
for our internet access here at the marina. XplorNet, for anyone
who is interested. While a decent service, it has a very serious
restriction on the amount of data that can be uploaded before
their "Traffic Management Policies" kick in. TMP means that they
cut our internet speed down substantially to penalize us for
overloading the satellite. For this reason, we are
restricting the upload capabilities of our free internet access
point. You will find that uploads will be very slow - this is
not a good location for you to upload the latest YouTube video!
However, for browsing, downloads, and emails, you should find
the speeds to be far superior to dial up!
Marine Fuel Questions & Answers
Once
again, customers are asking what grade of fuel does Old Mill
Marina sell, and does it contain ethanol? At this time, Old Mill
has switched from premium 91 octane gas to regular 87 octane gas
with the end of the snowmobile season. Petro Canada confirms
that again this year, there is no ethanol in the fuel being
supplied to the Petro Canada branded marinas throughout Muskoka
and Haliburton regions. Currently, our fuel price is $1.23
a litre.
Pleasure Craft Operators
Card Mandatory For Everyone
This card is now mandatory for
everyone operating a pleasure craft in Canada. If you do
not already have a card, you can write a Boat Smart Challenge
Exam at Old Mill Marina. If you pass the test, the card
will be mailed to you. Study guides are available for
those that need them. The fine for not having a card is
$310, so do not delay doing the test!
We have
had many questions about who needs the card, and whether or not
our American customers need the card. The simple answer is
everyone needs the card. There is an exemption for
non-residents that are here for 45 days or less, but to claim
this exemption, the boat must also be here for 45 days or less.
So, barring those that travel back and forth with their boat on
a trailer, non-residents will need the card too!
